Dorothea Lange

The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic downfall that took place during the 1930s. It was a time period filled with despair and loss, a time of great sadness and hence the name; depression. The Great Depression was said to be the longest, deepest, and most widespread depression of the 20th century, so impeding that the Great Depression is now commonly used as an example of how far the world's economy can decline as an extreme and thus ruining many people’s lives. Dorothea Lange’s photograph ‘Migrant Mother’ (pictured above) depicts the struggle and turmoil felt amongst people faced with those hardships at that time period. The woman photographed was of mother of seven children evidently ridded with self doubt, stress and angst. The woman reflects the feelings identical to those of others around her and represents the feeling suppressed by The Great Depression as a whole.
