Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman is an American born feminist photographer. Sherman often challenged ideas and expectations of gender roles for women of the later Twentieth Century time period. Cindy Sherman's 'Untitled Film Series' saw Sherman posing in various different self portraits, mimicing stereotypes associated with women of that time. Throughout her series she portrayed women as studious, premisquious and working class, employed women. Sherman's series was unrestricted, it represented women as a whole and in their many individual roles; unlike in the 1960's where women were often restricted to certain stereotypical domestic jobs such as looking after the children or doing the chores.

Cindy Sherman's work effectively liberates women in life.
